BIS Certification

BIS, or the Bureau of Indian Standards, serves as the National Standard Body of India, established under the BIS Act of 2016. The primary aim of BIS certification is to promote standardization, quality assurance, and appropriate marking of products and related matters.

Manufacturers, whether based in India or abroad, must obtain a BIS registration certificate for products that require compulsory certification. The registration process can be initiated online through the BIS portal.

There are certain documents required for BIS certification. The list of documents needed for BIS Certification is as follows:

For manufacturer (Overseas)

1. Name and address proof of the applicant
2. Business License (Regional language /English)
3. Name, designation, contact and email id of the designated signatory of manufacturer company.

For Indian representation/Importer

1.Trademark certification or application number.
2.Model number
3. Samples of the product (2 units)
4.Documents of the brand owner(GST certificate, pan card,Aadhar Card)

Step -1 The Foreign manufacture register on the website of Bis.

Step -2 Testing request form generated.

Step -3 Testing will perform as per BIS standard for next 10 to 12days

Step -4 After testing the final test report upload on BIS portal.

Step -5 BIS application filed with requisite fee and the same hardcopy submitted in the BIS department.

BIS registration is valid for 1 year after which it needs to be renewed. For renewal, documents and prescribed fees need to be paid. However, testing is not required during renewal. In case, the licensee fails to apply for renewal post validity period, their BIS license stands cancelled.

Approval for renewal is subject to application fees, processing charges, annual fees, and outstanding dues (if any) prior to submitting the renewal request.
